Registration

RSVP to and attend ONE New Tutor Orientation and Training session.
This is required and will prepare you for your first Tutoring session.

Please also sign up for our newsletter to stay up-to-date with all things SDRT.

No volunteer commitment is needed to attend the Orientation.
A background check DOES NOT need to be completed to attend an Orientation session.

Our next New Tutor Orientation session is in-person and scheduled for:
Wednesday, October 30 at 5 p.m.

Space is limited and you will need to SIGN UP HERE to attend.

Step 2: Register

TUTORS OF ALL AGES must create a Volunteer Account and sign up for our organization on our Volunteer Platform here.

At the link above, you would fill out a Registration Form, which includes agreeing to SDRT’s policies. You would also need to pass a criminal background check (if 18+ years of age) to be approved to tutor.

  • During the sign-up process, you will create an account and fill out the Volunteer Registration Form.
  • A few minutes after submitting your registration form, an email will be automatically sent to you that goes over the next steps on how to complete your registration process.
  • The automated email mentioned above includes the link to start your background check.

Are you under 18 years of age?
We welcome you to volunteer with your parent or guardian who is 18 years of age or older
.
Please view our Minors’ Policy here.

Step 3: RSVP

In order for us to maintain a healthy 1-to-1 student-to-tutor ratio, we require that all volunteers plan to RSVP for and attend at least ONE session EACH WEEK for the duration of SDRT’s tutoring year.
For the 2024-2025 school year, that would be a 29-week total commitment.

Our goal for you is to build a strong rapport with one of our students through consistent attendance, one week at a time.

Once Steps 1 and 2 have been completed, we will send you an email with how to sign-up for Volunteer Shifts. You will be able to do this on our Volunteer Platform when logged into your Volunteer Account.

Our Tuesday & Thursday IN-PERSON Tutoring Sessions are held at Ibarra Elementary School in City Heights.
ALL GRADES: 5:00–6:30 p.m.

Step 4 (optional): Donate!

SD Refugee Tutoring is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that relies heavily on monetary donations.
As a prospective tutor, we are very thankful for the time you are planning to give to our students.
We would additionally love for you to consider donating to help keep the program running.
