Fun Fridays: The Adventures Continue!
We’ve already had three Fun Friday events this trimester!
Our first was a middle and high school Boys’ Night where our teen male students came together on Zoom to make egg mcmuffins. Our very own volunteers, Garett and Cameron, led the session with much success! The quote of the night from one of the students: “I already made all six of the muffins. I have a big family, you know?” For another student, this was his first Fun Friday ever. He asked, “Does this happen every Friday?” Our students clearly love connecting with their peers and engaging in a fun and stress-relieving activity.
On another Friday evening, another one of our tutors, Jenna and her team of friends, led a fantastic session for the 1st-4th graders. They made pop-up Valentine’s cards! Our students shared how they were going to give their cards to parents and brothers and sisters. It was a sweet time with students exhibiting amazingly professional Zoom etiquette. Their chat messages were encouraging and appropriate. Way to go, Elementary Students!
Most recently, we hosted another Girls’ Night for our middle and high school female students–a Galentine’s! By popular demand, we brought back a summer favorite, vegan gimbap (or Korean “sushi”). It was a fantastic evening with 15 students attending and lively breakout room discussions. Thanks to Tracy and Andrea for helping to lead the night! Our middle and high school students (boys and girls alike) are proving to be veritable top chefs!
Our students love Fun Fridays. It’s a way for them to relax, engage, build experiences, and connect with their peers. Give to SDRT to continue this important work.
