Good News We Can All Use

We know there is a lot of bad news out there but here is some good news to cheer you up!

A gigantic thank you to all of you who shipped us items, donated online, collected items from your friends and family and drove loads to City Heights last week! TEAM SDRT received groceries, cleaning supplies and diapers from many of you last Thursday, as the clouds rolled in and the rain fortunately never came. Hope for San Diego arrived with two full carloads of items they collected on our behalf as well (then showed up later with even more!).

TEAM SDRT bagged and sorted potatoes, rice, onions, and many other items for our most vulnerable families. TEAM SDRT quickly delivered to doorsteps and told our kids that we love them, their tutors still care and SDRT is here for them. We gave them a list of simple tips for this time and a couple of our phone numbers. The families were happy to see us and grateful for the words of encouragement as well as the food.

That’s not all! We are also really happy to report that starting this Tuesday, March 24th, Ibarra Elementary will become another San Diego Unified School District Food Distribution Site. Our students will be able to receive a Grab-and-Go free lunch and a breakfast for the next day from 11-1pm on weekdays. This is really great news because most of our families live very near to Ibarra. We had been hoping for this!

We had to cancel our second collection day due due to Governor Newsom’s advice. We will let you know when we can collect these items as soon as we can. We plan to keep in touch with our students during this time so they feel supported. We hope that you and your family will be safe and healthy at this time as well. We couldn’t be more grateful for the SDRT community, or better yet, the SDRT family, that extends far beyond City Heights.

With much appreciation,
The SDRT Board
