What Matters: Stories of Good In San Diego

It was an honor to be featured in this month’s San Diego Magazine. It wasn’t coincidental that the story about San Diego Refugee Tutoring was published under “Sacred Spaces.”
At any given tutoring session, if you can step back away from the organized chaos for just a moment, you, too, will notice the sacred space. What happens at SDRT between students and tutors is both inspiring and magical.
We are delighted that San Diego Magazine captured it so well.
Mateo Hokes, the Executive Editor wrote about SDRT in his Editor’s Note.
“Some volunteers from North County drive every week during rush hour. Others leave their jobs as special education teachers to then come tutor for free. One is a marine helicopter pilot. Being among them was an instant reminder: People care.”
As we walk into the new year with likely changes on the horizon, let’s hold on to that statement.
People care.
Let’s continue to be those people who care for our neighbors as we approach the start of 2025.
