We are BUSY at SDRT!

May 2026

We Got to Be Kids!

From toddlers to teens to adult volunteers, parents and staff, over 200 of us got to be kids last Saturday as we biked on all kinds of crazy bikes, ate fluffy cotton candy, created spectacular art and of course, built MEMORIES! Our kids look forward to this event every year and the joy it brought was priceless.

We had a new and improved course thanks to our Bike Day Volunteer Extraordinaire, Clarke! Three motivated and excited kids learned to ride a bike for the first time on Saturday. We are thrilled to report that we had zero injuries despite our eager drivers. Many happy campers visited our kinetic sand, art and Lego booths while taking a break from vigorous peddling. We ate lots of juicy hamburgers and hot dogs thanks to Chef Jeremiah and his crew.

Thanks to everyone, including The San Diego Public Library, SDGE, National Charity League and Hope For San Diego—and YOU—for supporting this event!

Saturday Assessments

It says something about our kids when 94 of them show up on a Saturday to show us their math and reading skills! These assessments will greatly help us determine where our kids are at academically and how we can best help them at tutoring.

The kids ate lunch, read and waited their turn to share what they have learned this year! Thank you to the 30+ volunteers who also gave up their Saturday to help our kids focus, take their time and do their best!

Parent Workshop: Sharing Growth

We held our last Parent Workshop of the year this week and had an excellent turnout—33 parents representing 85 of our kids! We had the privilege of sharing the growth that each student has made this year. We provided translation in six languages, printed assessment results, a delicious dinner and a raffle. We have such an engaged parent community thanks in part to our incredible Family Academic Liaisons.

We also got to share with parents what they can do at home to support their students’ growth and what we will continue to do day in and day out at tutoring. We want to see all of our kids progress each year and eventually reach grade level.

We're Out There

The SDRT Board’s Marketing and Media Committee has put together quite a booth to represent us at street fairs, churches, etc. We had the opportunity to table at The Rolando Street Fair and Covenant Church this month!
