If it wasn’t the new Jansport backpack or the cool Vans shoes, it was reuniting with their tutors after a long summer break that got our kids hyped for their first week of school. Students started a new year fresh with new socks and underwear, sharp crayons and stylish haircuts. Thanks to our partnership with Hope for San Diego, they also ran themselves ragged on a 40 foot inflatable obstacle course, used endless amounts of glue on summer crafts, and got soaked with wild water games! Not only did students leave with physical preparations, they were mentally prepared to crush that first week of school. And, crush they did.
We were unsure how many families would feel comfortable attending this annual event, yet were blown away by our highest family attendance ever. We provided supplies for over 170 students and had the support of over 100 volunteers.
It takes a village! We can’t thank our donors enough, who purchased over $28,000 in items for both our students and our tutoring sessions!
