The Learning Curve of Online Learning

Our students are back in school, although it is online learning at home.

We had a chance to share with our students at our Back to School Event that this round, things would be different. There will be much more instruction that is live, more work and mandatory attendance/assignments! Let’s suffice it to say it was a rocky start but slowly but surely, issues are being resolved. We are finding those Zoom IDs and Passwords, helping kids replace broken headphones, searching online for their schedules and helping kids deal with the myriad of tech issues.

This past Friday, we went to one home early in the morning and found all five students awake, ready to go, in separate spaces and some were already learning from their teachers! This is amazing progress. SDRT’s resounding message that “Education is important” is being heard! Thank you, tutors, for your consistency in delivering this message by showing up to tutor our kids.

You helped us set our kids up well! Last weekend, we distributed items to over 165 students ranging from preschool to community college! We also got them all registered with SDRT for this upcoming school year. We had the best attendance yet–and we stayed socially distant, following all Covid-19 safety protocols. Thanks for the incredulous amount of donations. Each student received their own school box with supplies just for them! Families got bags of fruit from Sprouts, every hygiene product you could imagine and pizzas to go. All got a new pair of flip flops to wear at home. It was a great way to kick off the new school year and connect with our kids. Thanks to the volunteers who organized and ran each of our six stations!
