That’s a Wrap!

June 2025

We finished off a tremendous year with graduation celebrations, banana splits, delicious pizza, photo albums, special giveaways AND of course, tutoring!

Our last week of tutoring culminated in both tutoring and special activities for students and tutors to connect before summer break. Some learned what a banana split was—and how much they liked it! Others searched through piles of pictures to find ones of themselves at SDRT to create their very own photo album. All were thrilled with the new books and art kits that our amazing donors provided.

Jodi Maroney Scholarship

We celebrated all of our kids promoting to a new school: whether they will be attending middle school, high school or college. Our special guest of honor, Jon Maroney, met our students receiving the scholarship created to honor his late wife, Jodi.

Jodi Maroney Recipient

One of our scholarship award recipients, Fatuma, who came to the US in 3rd grade, burst into tears as we gave her a gift basket and award to celebrate her accomplishment.

In the gift basket were photos we had printed from when she was new to San Diego and SDRT. Through tears, she said she had so many good memories at SDRT and that she would miss being a student in our program. It was finally hitting her that she was graduating.

Fatuma (below) finished high school with a 4.1 GPA and will be headed to SDSU in the fall.

SDRT is in it for the long haul

Tutoring is over for the 2025-26 school year but SDRT isn’t over.

Watching our kids grow up around us and making memories—all while making progress academically—is what keeps us here.

We don’t plan on going anywhere.
