Just How Important is SDRT?
One timid Afghan student who has been in the US for about two years expressed herself so clearly on Saturday. She came up to the Director and exclaimed with a wide grin, “I missed you guys so much this summer! I am SO happy you are back!”
SDRT plays a big role in our students’ lives.
Having a place where our kids automatically are accepted and feel a sense of belonging is hard to come by—for many kids, not just refugees. Interacting with Americans who speak English and care about you and support you and your studies is also not easy to find.
Saturday’s event reminded us how important the support and community SDRT provides really is.
The BIGGEST THANK YOU!
We are overwhelmed with gratitude for each of you who truly came together as a village to surround our students last Saturday as they headed back to school this past week. Whether you were one of the 100 folks who served last Saturday in that summer heat, or you played a role behind-the-scenes, or you did both, our hats go off to you. Our kids felt the love and excitement in the air and that was because of YOU.
Thank you.
We collected over a hundred little sweet notes that came in SO MANY Amazon packages from you…Olivia, Ava, Stacy, Tiffany, Alfonso, Jessie, Joan, Jason, Laura, Alyssa, Lynn, Sarah, Peter, Dominique, Susie, Yvonne, Sanjida, Sheryl...the list goes on and on.
We received monetary donations in all sizes from fifty of you, who helped sponsor the event and allowed us to purchase thousands of dollars worth of items for our kids.
We partnered with eight organizations, including Hope For San Diego, to pull off our largest event ever. Our kids loved the face painting, water fights, bounce house that HFSD brought this year.
Thank you to Makers’ Church, Kensington Community Church, Hope for San Diego, SDGE, Cura Smiles, National Charity League, Sprouts Chula Vista and Riggins Barber College for partnering with SDRT to make this a success!
Our kids’ smiles say it all.
THANK YOU!
